Some thoughts about the FEI portion of your LCDP experience

First, I invite you to think about what you are embarking upon as a journey — a trip into unchartered territory (terra incognita as the ancients called it) — at once a bit scary and also very exhilarating. We talk about leadership as a "journey" because there really is no point of arrival, no destination. Leadership is simply not something one can know fully, but is always in the act of discovering. Leadership is akin to the observation by John Wooden, the most successful coach in college basketball history, who once remarked:

It's what you learn after you know it all that really counts.

And so it is with leadership. It is a lifelong commitment... not just to how to lead others but also how to manage oneself. In fact, as you will read below, great leadership begins with self understanding, and so does the LCDP.

The four and a half weeks you will spend at the Federal Executive Institute during the next 18 months will immerse you in a leadership learning experience designed very intentionally around a 4-part model. The four parts of the model are a set of concentric circles.
